A fundraiser in support of the BME Church, St. Catharines.

The Salem Chapel BME (British Methodist Episcopal) church in St. Catharines, also known as the Harriet Tubman Church, is in desperate need of repair.

The church, now a National Historic Site, was built by freedom seekers in 1853 and was a hub for abolitionist activities and the work of Harriet Tubman in St. Catharines during the Underground Railroad. Descendants of those freedom seekers attend this church today.

Money raised will repair damages to the building and reinforce the building structure.

The church sees thousands of visitors each year. As Harriet Tubman’s place of worship and Ontario’s oldest black church, it is one of the province’s most important historic sites that we will be helping to maintain for future generations.
